1 post · Joined 2013. #1 · Nov 6, 2013. Hello, I searched a lot worldwide, but I am not sure if it is possible to use Ford Duratec engine to replace the MX5 NC 2.0 with faulty engine. I was thinking about using the head and cams from the faulty MX5 with the Duratec from Mondeo or possibly Mazda 6 with the compression ratio 10,8 :1 (same as The original development of the Ford 2 liter Duratec engine was done by Olsberg MSE or OMSE. OMSE has successfully campaigned the engine in Rallycrosss and a more restricted version of the powerplant in WRC Rally for several years. Ultimately, the engine had long term durability issues and not the greatest race reliability. Ford Motor makes the Duratec engine which can power different types of cars: compact, cargo, and midsize cars. The Duratec engine is also commonly referred to as the Mazda L engine. Over time, it has been known as one of the best in its league. About the Duratec Engine The Ford Ranger has a Duratec 2.3 also; however it's timing chain is slightly different than the Focus PZEV's. The Focus chain is of higher quality. The Focus 2.3 also has balance shafts, where the Ranger 2.3 does not. There's also over $800.00 difference if you were to buy both engines complete from Ford. Mac2 has the duratec 2.3the OP has the Lima 2.3, both engiens are very good the Lima 2.3 is a very dependable engine. I would bring up all the maintenance and change all the fluids, oil, coolant, etc, only use Auto lite or Motorcraft plugs. Change the Fuel Filter ASAP.(this will help prolong the life of the fuel pump.

i got 85k on mine and its a 2.0 duratec,,,,ive had it for over 3 yrs now,,bought jan 05 and it was made in 04 production date,,,so the 2.0 dura's have been around longer then 2.5yrs..but i have had ford rebuild my tranny 3 times,,,but no real engine problems,,had to remove the intake manifold once due to the pcv valve hose from the intake had
