In 1943, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo created her own work, called Painting Roots. Her self-portraits are regarded as some of her most beautiful and recognizable pieces. The painting’s sale price of $5,616,000 set a new record for a Latin Mexican artist.
In 2018, San Francisco city officials renamed a street after Frida Kahlo in front of City College of San Francisco’s main campus, also the permanent home of Diego Rivera’s “ Pan American Unity” mural. In what Kahlo called the “city of the world” the lasting brush strokes of Mexico’s most known artists are as vibrant as ever.
