Happened to me yesterday. Was about to lead an HP train and everything id type wasn’t showing up at all. Then it kicked me back to the character select screen.
Right-click the GW2.exe file and select Create Shortcut. Rename the shortcut to something relevant (e.g. GW2 Diagnostic) Right-click the shortcut. Choose Properties from the context menu. In the Target field, append -diag at the end of the text. The end of the field should look like GW2.exe -diag.

I apologize, I didn’t explain this thoroughly enough. You create a shortcut to the guild wars 2 launcher by right clicking the gw2.exe or gw2-64.exe and then clicking “create shortcut”. You can drag this to your desktop for ease of use. Next, right click the SHORTCUT and click properties. You’ll see a box that says “target”.

If you have lag issues, experiment with running a command like 'ping -t 8.8.8.8' (endlessly ping the google DNS server) in a command window. Keep shutting down applications one by one.
